Hiking is not just to be proud of our records of distances traveled, of elevations collected, of hotspots visited at full speed on the other side of the world. Hiking is also giving us breaks, moments of rest, paying us the luxury of wasting our time on nature details that often can be found just a stone's throw away from our front doors.
On a recent hike under some last autumnal sun rays, we could have overlooked those warm, sour-sweet tones lit by a dazzling backlight, had we passed by in all haste, obsessed with our records to be beaten. Slowing down, taking advantage of that scenery for a few moments, letting our senses being soaked up by that ephemeral beauty and finally aiming to remember that bit of pure nature for a long time, such was our very first priority.
